After a challenging, but rewarding Term 1, with some tough matches and hard-fought wins, the 1st XI went into Term 2 with a lot to fight for.

In BUCs, we still had the chance to stay up in Midlands 1A because of our tie with Birmingham 3s and our win against Worcester 1s. Where we were plagued by injuries in Term 1, most of our team was now fit and back on our feet. We didn’t have many BUCs matches left, but every match was important. Although we didn’t win our BUCs matches in Term 2, we showed great improvement compared to Term 1, which could be seen in our results. Through our hard work,...

This year’s Varsity match pushed back at 11:30 on Sunday the 24th of Feb, the early start perhaps an attempt by Coventry to lessen the amount of supporters witnessing their 29th loss. The sun shined, teasing the possibility of an early summer, Warwick 1s warmed up to the boombox (despite the recent injury of our DJ Sec) and Varsity-bundle facepaint decorated supporters and players alike. Warwick’s supporters were out in force with just as much cardboard, outnumbering Coventry’s fans despite us playing on their shoddy home pitch.

The first half produced no real threat from Coventry. Warwick...

The 1s have had a very busy term 1, being promoted into a new BUCs league and facing a lot of great teams on Saturday as well. Currently, we are in the fourth place in the Midlands 1A league, and in 8th place in the WWHL. After a difficult start, we are now going up in the rankings and winning more and more games. With the second half of the season and Varsity still ahead, we look forward to keeping the goals coming and getting even more wins in term 2!

This year we permanently added two freshers in the team. Chelsea has been an excellent addition to our midfield, dribbling around our oppon...

This has been an absolutely incredible term (and year) for the 1st XI, and all credit must go to the girls for working so hard to achieve it all.

With only two BUCs wins needed in term two to clinch the title, we had it comfortably secured in week 5 of term, with a thrilling 5-3 victory vs Leicester. The celebrations were one to remember, and I’m not sure we’ll ever get tired of chanting ‘we are Warwick 1s’.  Also, big hand to the girls for still stepping up for the remaining league games post-title win, beating Oxford and Harper Adams to complete a flawless 9/9 wins in Midlands 2A. Perfect...

8-0: The biggest Varsity shoeing in UWLHC history?

On what must’ve been the coldest night in February, the whole of UWLHC came out in force to watch the 1XI shoe the poly in one of the biggest wins in our Varsity history.

Upon arrival to Westwood we followed the sound of the banging tunes to the home changing rooms where we were greeted by our very own MUA Charlotte LLoyd (follow her hair and beauty page on insta) who kitted us out with our war paint and we were ready to show everyone why we go to the real uni.

As we walked out onto the pitch ready to show the fans why we are not only Warwick...

The first team have had an absolutely incredible first half of the season, sitting at the top of midlands 2A in BUCS, 2nd in Div 1 of WWHL, and still in the race for the cup! We have scored 80 goals in the process - so that averages five goals per game - free scoring to say the least. The competition for golden stick looks incredibly tight this year, with Bevis leading the way on 17, then Bean (15), and Hollerbach (13). We look forward to keeping the goals coming in term 2.

Our season began with an excellent and high quality fresher intake. Eva and Becky have added quality at the back, Emma...

Last term the 1st team rose to the challenge of 1A and our new position as a performance squad. The girls have put in the work both on and off the pitch and can boast some impressive wins including against Loughborugh! The S&C sessions have clearly being paying off and we’re playing a faster, and more physical game. As ever, it’s not only on the pitch that the first team girls have been making their mark as they have also been enjoying the social side of the club too… including a rather rowdy curry with the men’s 1st team... We’re looking forward to what this term has to offer as some big...

Score- 3-2

With a promotion already secured, the Warwick 1s turned their attention to safeguarding their unbeaten track record. Our final game saw our toughest opponents Nottingham at their home ground, but we weren’t nervous as we had a 16 man squad….

ALAS, the Warwick 1s were plagued with injuries, including a cricked neck, with the squad being reduced to 11. We arrived to see a playing squad of 16 from Notts warming up alongside a big boozy sideline of support; safe to say we were nervous.

But our nerves were unfounded, with Warwick playing quite possibly the best hockey they have ever pla...

This was the big one. The 1st XI warriors strode to The Place, the rival of our very own Fortress Westwood, to try and secure their dreams of 1A promotion. The chat was high in the changing rooms, but with a particular focus on tactics and aggression on the field thanks to Kali. Confidence was high following the 7-0 shoeing of Coventry 1s in the annual Varsity fixture a couple of weeks prior, but we never underestimated our opposition. With a hearty backslap and a double check that I had remembered the all important Haribo, we headed to the pitch.

Coventry tried their best to avoid...
