WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO...

My final term as charities officer for UWLHC before I hand over the reins has been amazing! We started off the new calendar year by celebrating our Freshers at the annual Talent Show. Unfortunately, most teams forgot what ‘talent’ meant, while others (*cough the 4s cough my own team cough*) forgot to show up. However, some shining stars brought us Tik Tok dances, sexy singalongs, soapy shirtless wrestling, and our winners even provided us with a throwback to the highlight of mine and all our childhoods by performing Troy and Gabriella’s High School Musical duet. It was also an amazing nigh...

The 4s have come long way since the start of Term One this year. Term 2 has been a massive success for us, and we have performed brilliantly in both our friendly league Wednesday matches and in the WWHL Sunday League.

One of my proudest moments as Captain of the 4s this year was our match against Coventry NW, in which we decided to play in the questionable conditions during  Strom Ciara back at the beginning of February, and won! We have really upped our game this year in terms of dedication to the team, including training and matches alike, and in terms of hockey. We have played several We...

Term 2 has been a fantastic time for the 3s; the team has become ever closer over the many matches that we had this season due to the many re-arrangements from the shocking English weather! Our performance had vastly improved from term 1, thanks to our amazing coach Andy along with the help of Louis always pushing us to be better players.

The 3s have performed brilliantly in BUCS this season, winning all of our matches apart from our very last match of the season against Derby 1s. It was a very narrow loss, we were tied 0-0 at half time, however given that this was our only BUCS loss this t...

I'd like to say a massive thankyou to the 2s, you have made me so proud to be your captain this year, it’s an honour and I’m so proud to have continued the tradition of having such a close knit group of girls even with so many new faces. On and off the pitch you girls are fantastic and I already miss spending so much time with you all.

We are very happy with a mid table finish, securing our places in both BUCs and Saturday league with some fantastic play. We have given some of the best hockey and best results in the club with massive 6-1 win against Shipston 1s, 5-0 and 4-1 wins in Saturda...

Coming back after Christmas, with only 3 BUCS games left, we set our sights on gaining back our high position in the Saturday league table. Although Daura had unfortunately returned after her Erasmus term, meaning we were down a defender, we were pleased to welcome Charlotte Thomas back to the forward line after her term in Venice. When we started the rotation of teams in the league again, the return of her speed and skill was felt immediately as we began to win with greater results than the previous times we’d played those lower teams. Every week felt really exciting as we continued and c...

What a term it has been for UWLHC charity! This year we have chosen to support two amazing charities.

The first is our national charity Teenage Cancer Trust (https://www.teenagecancertrust.org/) and the money we raise this year will be going to providing young people with essential support throughout their cancer journey, before, during and after.

Our second chosen charity is Coventry Cyrenians (http://www.coventrycyrenians.co.uk/) and the money we raise will go towards giving those in Coventry and Warwickshire who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, individualised support to promote...

The 3s didn’t have the most confident start to the season, with only 5 of the original players from last year left it was going to be an uphill battle. As the term began the freshers appeared, 15 in total, each of them bringing a different set of skills to the pitch and we were very thankful to have gained not one but 2 goalkeepers! By the end of week 3 we had scored 7 goals in both Saturday league and BUCS bringing our grand total to 14 in just 3 weeks, (the highest in the club)!! This included a 5-1 win over Staffordshire University and  2-0 win over Barfford Tigers. We also had our firs...

It’s been a fantastic first term for the twos!! Every year the 2s have a big fresh intake and this year has been no different, with 12 new members from fresh and the 3s we’ve made ourselves incredibly proud with our performances in the last 10 weeks. After a very strong trials at the start of term we have continued to improve throughout the term to finish at christmas placed highest out of all the teams in our BUCS league!

After getting promoted in saturday league last season we’ve had some very challenging matches but despite this the girls have put in an excellent effort every week withou...

Looking back on Term 1 everyone who has played with the 1s deserves so much

credit, the ten weeks have whizzed by and were jam-packed with so much as well as all our hockey. We began the season with an amazing preseason which all thanks to our Performance Sport team, as well as an incredible tour to Amsterdam. On tour we were lucky enough to have a training session at one of the clubs, play (and win!) against a local team and even watch some really high level hockey at Amsterdam HC.

Our Saturday league started off with some really promising wins, continuing our successful streak for a few we...

We kicked the new year off, with the Charity Talent Show returning in 2019 at Altoria with all the freshers from UWLHC and UWMHC getting involved to show us their many talents. While the competition was tense, in the end the Men’s 4s came out on top with a hilarious dance routine! This night raised a phenomenal £126 for Alzheimer’s Research, one of our chosen charities of the year and showed that our freshers are certainly not only talented on the hockey pitch!

UWLHC also continued the February Family Challengewhich started for the first-time last year! We had 9 hockey families who di...
