WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO...

What a term it has been for UWLHC charity! This year we have chosen to support two amazing charities.

The first is our national charity Teenage Cancer Trust (https://www.teenagecancertrust.org/) and the money we raise this year will be going to providing young people with essential support throughout their cancer journey, before, during and after.

Our second chosen charity is Coventry Cyrenians (http://www.coventrycyrenians.co.uk/) and the money we raise will go towards giving those in Coventry and Warwickshire who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, individualised support to promote...

The 3s didn’t have the most confident start to the season, with only 5 of the original players from last year left it was going to be an uphill battle. As the term began the freshers appeared, 15 in total, each of them bringing a different set of skills to the pitch and we were very thankful to have gained not one but 2 goalkeepers! By the end of week 3 we had scored 7 goals in both Saturday league and BUCS bringing our grand total to 14 in just 3 weeks, (the highest in the club)!! This included a 5-1 win over Staffordshire University and  2-0 win over Barfford Tigers. We also had our firs...

It’s been a fantastic first term for the twos!! Every year the 2s have a big fresh intake and this year has been no different, with 12 new members from fresh and the 3s we’ve made ourselves incredibly proud with our performances in the last 10 weeks. After a very strong trials at the start of term we have continued to improve throughout the term to finish at christmas placed highest out of all the teams in our BUCS league!

After getting promoted in saturday league last season we’ve had some very challenging matches but despite this the girls have put in an excellent effort every week withou...

Looking back on Term 1 everyone who has played with the 1s deserves so much

credit, the ten weeks have whizzed by and were jam-packed with so much as well as all our hockey. We began the season with an amazing preseason which all thanks to our Performance Sport team, as well as an incredible tour to Amsterdam. On tour we were lucky enough to have a training session at one of the clubs, play (and win!) against a local team and even watch some really high level hockey at Amsterdam HC.

Our Saturday league started off with some really promising wins, continuing our successful streak for a few we...

We kicked the new year off, with the Charity Talent Show returning in 2019 at Altoria with all the freshers from UWLHC and UWMHC getting involved to show us their many talents. While the competition was tense, in the end the Men’s 4s came out on top with a hilarious dance routine! This night raised a phenomenal £126 for Alzheimer’s Research, one of our chosen charities of the year and showed that our freshers are certainly not only talented on the hockey pitch!

UWLHC also continued the February Family Challengewhich started for the first-time last year! We had 9 hockey families who di...

The 3s have had a really exciting season, improving both in our Saturday League and our BUCS. These last 10 weeks, in addition to our first season, have led to the success of our team both on and off the pitch.

Our greatest game this year was undoubtedly the 2-2 draw against Nottingham Trent. Though this doesn’t look like a big achievement, especially since we had much better results against other teams, Notts Trent were dominating our BUCS league and so a draw against them (on their own pitch!!) was a fantastic result. Overall, we came third in BUCS, a great result given the standard of p...

Having ended last term in 8th place in Saturday league and 6th place in BUCs, the 2s have improved on both of these, finishing in 6th and 5th place respectively.

In Saturday league, this half of the season has been really successful, with 6 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses. We also scored 22 goals! Our last game of the season was somehow also our biggest win with a margin of 5.0. Since we were only promoted into this league at the end of last season, we should definitely consider 6th place here a huge success. Reflecting again on the quality of our team, our goals this season have been spl...

After a challenging, but rewarding Term 1, with some tough matches and hard-fought wins, the 1st XI went into Term 2 with a lot to fight for.

In BUCs, we still had the chance to stay up in Midlands 1A because of our tie with Birmingham 3s and our win against Worcester 1s. Where we were plagued by injuries in Term 1, most of our team was now fit and back on our feet. We didn’t have many BUCs matches left, but every match was important. Although we didn’t win our BUCs matches in Term 2, we showed great improvement compared to Term 1, which could be seen in our results. Through our hard work,...

This year’s Varsity match pushed back at 11:30 on Sunday the 24th of Feb, the early start perhaps an attempt by Coventry to lessen the amount of supporters witnessing their 29th loss. The sun shined, teasing the possibility of an early summer, Warwick 1s warmed up to the boombox (despite the recent injury of our DJ Sec) and Varsity-bundle facepaint decorated supporters and players alike. Warwick’s supporters were out in force with just as much cardboard, outnumbering Coventry’s fans despite us playing on their shoddy home pitch.

The first half produced no real threat from Coventry. Warwick...
