1st XI Term 1 Round-Up
Well, what a whirlwind of a term!
We started off the year with a strong preseason after such a long break thanks to COVID-19. After so long off, we came back ever more determined to make the most out of our hockey and I cannot fault the effort that everyone in the 1s put in both before and when we returned.
We smashed our first WWHL game of the season against Warwick 2s, with a 4-2 win, including a hattrick from Charlotte Lloyd.
We then all entered a 2-week isolation period, which involved several online workouts as we tried to keep fit. We drew our first game after it 0-0 with Coventry & North Warwickshire 1s, however, the scoreline really doesn’t reflect our play. We tried out a brand new formation, and our new freshers Tallulah, Ellie and Laura fitted in perfectly. Huge shout out to HVB for this game, who had one of her best games (and on a hangover too, I might add)!
The week after we came out even stronger against Rugby & East Warwickshire, with a 1-0 win. Char L was back again with her goal stealing, this time stealing from Vicky. Fi, who somehow got even stronger during her year abroad, was the unanimous woman of the match for this one, for an incredible game, after which both umpires individually came to me singing her praises.
Our last WWHL game was sadly a 2-0 on Halloween in the rain and cold, against Hampton-in-Arden, however, we finished the COVID-ruined mini-season solidly mid-table, despite only playing 4 games. I can’t wait to get playing again and climb our way up after Christmas!
Just before lockdown, we finished our period of playing hockey with a fantastic game against the Men 4’s. We may have lost 5-0, however, the first half was only 1-0. We played some brilliant hockey as both individuals and as a unit, and it was brilliant to see.
Over lockdown, we have been keeping fit through a variety of methods. Most of us took part (and smashed Move for Movember) and we’ve been doing an advent calendar of fitness challenges, all in preparation for smashing whatever hockey we manage to play in the new year.
I cannot wait to get back on the pitch with this fantastic group of girls and we will hopefully be able to play more hockey in Term 2 than Term 1 and I am sure we will come back ever more determined to make the most of any games we can play!
