3rd XI Term 2 Round-Up

What an incredible season the 3s have had!!!

First and foremost, thanks to our unfailing work every Saturday, we are getting promoted in the Warwickshire Hockey League…!

Not only did we work consistently throughout term 2 to maintain our top of the league position, we also improved on a number of our results.

When we played Olton and West Warwick during preseason we lost 1-0 yet within the space of just a few months we had stepped up our game so much we won 7-1 (including 6 goals from Meg!).

With no thanks to the Beast from the East, we still have a couple of WWHL matches to play during the Easter break but it means we can really relax and enjoy them knowing we’ve safely got promotion in the bag with 2 games left to play!

With regards to BUCS, our results have improved immensely! A personal highlight was

going from losing 4-0 to Harper Adams in term 1 to securing a 3-0 victory at the end of term 2. In fact, the 3s only lost 1 BUCS match this term against Birmingham, in which we still put up a tremendous fight, not conceding until way into the second half. Having won our way into the quarter finals of the Midlands Plate, we faced Leicester 1s in February. Although Leicester narrowly won 2-1, it was a very close game and it was an achievement alone to progress this far in the Plate, something the 3s haven’t done in years.

From all these insane results, it’s clear to see just how much we’ve improved since the beginning of the year. It’s now second nature working together on the pitch and our strong friendships have undoubtedly helped us throughout the year.

Particular shoutouts also go to our coach Kasim and our match manager Alice (also Club Woman of the Year!) who have been there once again during term 2 to constantly push us to play better.

At hockey ball we awarded 'Most Improved Player' to Meg Bailey and 'Player of the Season' to Anna Bedwell.

As the season comes to a close, the team has to say goodbye to some invaluable members. Taylor, Freya, Kingy and Mads have been committed members of the 3s for years and it certainly won’t be the same without them next year. The 3s also lose Gayatri who, despite only joining the 3s this term, has been consistently enthusiastic and determined as goalie.

(I think everyone will also miss just being entertained by Taylor’s post-Kasbah Tuesday morning fitness).

I’ve loved being captain and will miss it a lot next year but feel rest-assured knowing that the position is being passed on to Sarah, who will absolutely smash it!!
