2nd XI Term 2 Round-Up

Term 2 has been a great one for the 2nd team. Spoiler alert but we finished TOP OF THE LEAGUE in our Saturday WWHL division, with 47 points, and guaranteed ourselves promotion to Division 2.

We maintained our winning streak – only losing one match all year, which was aeons ago on the 30th September (before half of the fresh had even moved to uni). We had some emphatic scores, winning 7-0 against Birmingham Wasps and Solihull Blossomfield, 6-1 against Sutton Coldfield and 5-0 against Berkswell, who we had drawn 0-0 against when we first played them in November. As a team, we conceded the least goals in the league, partially thanks to our goalie Fiona (incoming 2s Captain), and ensured that the UWLHC golden stick for most goals stays firmly in the 2s with Charlotte (me lol) winning it for a second year.

Thanks to the Beast from the East, many of our matches had to be postponed and in the hurry to rearrange them we played on Monday nights, waterlogged pitches and in our last match of the season, through a blizzard. So, a massive shout-out to everyone on Team Flake (aka Team Chin) for their commitment, attitude and determination in playing these games, making sure we finished in the victorious fashion that we deserved. I think this attitude is exemplified by the 8-way tie in voting for ‘Most Improved Player’ – the whole team merits recognition for their efforts, but the award deservedly went to Rose (incoming Comms Sec) and ‘Player of the Season’ was won by Ella (incoming Social Sec).

In BUCS, we progressed to round 2 of the cup and had a really strong end to the season in our BUCS league – beating top of the league Lincoln 2-1, and drawing 0-0 with our local rivals Coventry who had beaten us 9-0 last year. We also had a 3-0 victory over DMU in our last BUCS match of the season, meaning we sit comfortably mid-table in the Midlands 3B league, with 14 points, which is 11 points more than last year! Playing on the waterbase pitch in our BUCS games lifted our performance massively in comparison to last year, and our wins made circle that much more enjoyable.

Off the pitch we loved watching the 1s dominate in varsity, enjoyed some discounted team meals (courtesy of Gen, or should I say Myfanwy), experienced every emotion possible during fresh factor and there were always many 2s faces present at socials – be it a trek to Kasbah, building whipped cream bridges with another club or a simple kitchen circle, the 2s were out in force.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us with our amazing season, promotion feels amazing, and thank you to the 2s players for making my job so easy!

Feeling like a proud mum lol… See you soon Div 2 #2s2s2s
