Term 1 Charities Round-Up

UWLHC began this year by choosing to represent the two amazing charities CRASAC and Alzheimer’s Research UK. CRASAC are our local charity who do amazing work for sexual abuse victims in the local community and Alzheimer’s Research UK is our national charity who have a mission to create the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025!

For any extra information on these amazing charities please take a moment to check out their websites and find out a bit more about all the life-changing work they do!

At the end of Week 2, the UWLHC exec met to help out Warwick volunteers clean up the canal in Leamington Spa. Despite the bad weather, we had a great time and managed to pull out everything from bikes to trolleys! This was a really fun and helpful opportunity to get involved with our local community and look after the environment.

In week 7 we also had the UWHC Charity Quiz together with UWMHC in aid or our respective charities to see who were the smartest members from our clubs and could come out on top! With rounds ranging from music, geography and a Christmas round to get everyone in the Christmas spirit, we raised a phenomenal £87.60 each for our respective charities!

Week 9 was also another charitable week for the ladies with a few of us getting our groove on to represent Ladies Hockey in CMD’s Lets Dance for Sport Relief. We did an amazing job and came second overall! A massive thank you to all the girls involved: Phoebe, Lauryn, Rhiannon, Rose, Helen, Eloise, Carlotta, Suzanna for all their commitment and enthusiasm and a special mention for Annabelle, Shaz and Vicky for choreographing the dance that got us such a great result! In the final week before breaking up for Christmas, we did a can drive to give out to the local homeless community in Leamington collecting a wonderful 28 cans in total! To finish in aid of Alzheimer’s Research and their glitterbrows scheme to raise awareness, UWLHC definitely took this in their stride! At Monday’s training session all the ladies got involved in taking glittery selfies with some glitter on their brows! Before Week 10 pop, we also had a glitter stand outside where people could donate some money to Alzheimer’s Research to get all glittered up for the last pop of the year! From this we raised an amazing £34 and I’m sure all the glitter definitely got everyone feeling very Christmassy!

For next year we have a lot of charity events planned from a talent show to a bake sale so keep your eyes peeled!

Thanks everyone for all your contributions and involvement to charity this term with UWLHC! I hope you all have a very merry and charitable Christmas!
