2nd XI Round Up | Term 2
Having ended last term in 8th place in Saturday league and 6th place in BUCs, the 2s have improved on both of these, finishing in 6th and 5th place respectively.
In Saturday league, this half of the season has been really successful, with 6 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses. We also scored 22 goals! Our last game of the season was somehow also our biggest win with a margin of 5.0. Since we were only promoted into this league at the end of last season, we should definitely consider 6th place here a huge success. Reflecting again on the quality of our team, our goals this season have been split across 11 players, including Ols’ (incoming 2s captain) smooth penalty flick and Rosie’s excellent short corner strikes. Some incredibly versatile players also deserve a mention - Niamh often playing in both forward and defence and Leah dropping back into defence from forward whenever there is an injury (which is often). Unfortunately we never got to see Lauryn in goal but there’s always next year! Having also only conceded 5 goals in this league this term, we really have shown our strength in both attack and defence.
BUCs has remained a challenge but we have still shown some strong improvement (and had some horrendous bad luck at times). Out of our 4 games in this half of the season, 3 of them ended with last minute 2.1 losses. However, in our high pressure match against Anglia Ruskin, we won 4.2, finally moving us off the bottom of the table. Having lost to UEA 5.1 before Christmas, we very nearly achieved a draw this term on their return fixture, it really goes to show just how much we have improved throughout the year.
Socially we are an incredibly integrated team and it’s always lovely to see the 2s out in force at UWLHC socials, at both circling and other events. It is great that everyone is loving being a part of the amazing club that is the UWLHC. The family feeling that we have within the team really does contribute not only to lasting friendships but also to success on the pitch.
In his last season with us, we also have a lot to thank Kali for. He has been an incredibly high quality coach and has coached many of us for some years. We will miss him next year.
Wishing you luck for next season!
