Term 1 has seen the 4s get off to a positive start. Trials and tasters at the start of term saw a huge amount of interest in joining the club. We continued to gain interest throughout the term, welcoming many later members.
This season has been one of the most successful and promising starts for the 4th team. Our training sessions have become increasingly varied, as we have started to focus increasingly on match play and tactics. We have managed to form a strong team for matches, with a dedicated forward, mid and defence. The girls that do play, tend to play most matches, which has allowed us to build a strong team dynamic in only a few weeks.
Our first match this season was against Hampton in Arden we suffered a very heavy 16-0 loss. However, towards the middle of the term things started to improve, with only a 2-0 against Coventry NW. Last week, we scored our first goal of the season against Coventry University 2s which is a massive achievement. Our defence has gone from strength to strength with Rea, Angel, Lexie, Fleur and Sian really coming into their own.
The 4s have come a long way this season so far, which could not have been done without the help of our coach Louis. Louis is always helpful and has actually made our freshers feel welcome.
Also a shout-out to goalkeepers Smita and Beth for stepping in and playing for us this term, making some amazing saves. This season has also seen more movement than ever before between the 3s and 4s with several of our girls playing up, well done to Ella, Rea, Sian and Lexie, and thanks to 3s Millie, Josefina and Taaiba for playing for us.
We have held a very successful team social at Wagamamas this term with a great turn out allowing us to bond off the pitch. In term 2 I hope that we will continue to get to know each other even better with more team socials and continue to improve our hockey. The 4s have come such a long way since I joined in, and I’m excited to see what the rest of this term has in store for us! I’m confident that on term 2 we will score some goals and definitely win a match! Thanks for a great first term girls, you’ve all made my role feel very easy by being so lovely and keen! It really is great to see so many of you joining, trying out and excelling at a new sport at University!
