2nd XI Round Up | Term 2

I'd like to say a massive thankyou to the 2s, you have made me so proud to be your captain this year, it’s an honour and I’m so proud to have continued the tradition of having such a close knit group of girls even with so many new faces. On and off the pitch you girls are fantastic and I already miss spending so much time with you all.

We are very happy with a mid table finish, securing our places in both BUCs and Saturday league with some fantastic play. We have given some of the best hockey and best results in the club with massive 6-1 win against Shipston 1s, 5-0 and 4-1 wins in Saturday league and very strong hockey bringing us convincing wins in BUCs too!

We had a very shaky start to the season with most of the team graduating/ going on years abroad but after a massive intake of freshers and girls coming to us from the threes we pulled it together quickly and it has been an absolute pleasure to see the progress everyone has made this year. From little freshies coming from school hockey and growing into confident ladies and BUCs league players and even a captain for next year! Threes girls moving up became some of our strongest players and top goal scorer in the club (Sarah Daniel!) and I think it’s fair to say we are a completely different team from the start to the end of the season.

We kept busy off the pitch with pre-circles and getting together to watch the rugby- even if eve did embarrass us all by showing up in her Scottish flag and proceeding to stand to sing the National anthem….. With bake sales in our families, team nights out and turning out to support other teams playing at home the 2s have been keeping busy with lots of fun and lots of hockey! This is of course including a brand new tradition (?) the CAMPUS BAR CRAWL!!! To celebrate our last BUCS game at home we proceeded to get ready for pop then go on our own bar crawl around campus to take a stroll down memory lane…. Absolutely fantastic afternoon enjoyed by everyone that joined us - even if not everyone remembers it. As Hockey Ball came round it was lovely to see the girls all glammed up. It was nice to branch out from our usual fancy dress and face paint and all the girls looked absolutely stunning. Awards for the team went to Tash for most improved and Abbie Whittock for player of the season so special congrats to these girls!

With elections bringing plenty of our girls onto the exec for next year I’m sure the 2s will remain such a massive part of the club and a great team to be a part of, especially with the lovely Tash as the incoming captain! Sadly with term three hockey being cancelled we will have to wait until September to see what the new season brings (get excited for the return of our year abroad girls!), but if we continue playing like we have this season there are big things to come :)

With the best attendance at training, games and socials the 2s have been fantastic to captain and even better mates to have.

Unfortunately writing this has made me quite emotional so it’s time to sign off x

All my 2s love <3
