3rd XI Round UP | Term 2

April 4, 2020

Term 2 has been a fantastic time for the 3s; the team has become ever closer over the many matches that we had this season due to the many re-arrangements from the shocking English weather! Our performance had vastly improved from term 1, thanks to our amazing coach Andy along with the help of Louis always pushing us to be better players.

The 3s have performed brilliantly in BUCS this season, winning all of our matches apart from our very last match of the season against Derby 1s. It was a very narrow loss, we were tied 0-0 at half time, however given that this was our only BUCS loss this term we’ve played fantastic, placing us 2nd in BUCS!! Despite being short on numbers numerous times the 3s have been able to pull some gorgeous plays out of the bag, most notably our 5-2 win against Harper Adams with only 9 players! The big wins didn’t stop there; our 4-1 win against Staffordshire and our 2-0 against Coventry are amongst the favourites from this term.

Our Saturday league matches have been less fortunate than our BUCS wins, playing against some very challenging teams combined with some terrible umpiring; it’s been a difficult season for the 3s. Despite this the girls have put in 100% effort for every match, with special mention to our defence and our goalie, and co-captain Smita! Defence have been absolutely crackin’ this term, with both Sian G and Lexie pushing up from the 4s and providing invaluable skills. So much so that Sian actually broke her finger! We love you Sian <3 Millie and Evie are wonderful wing-backs along with Maxime and Sheryl as our powerful centre backs, constantly providing pressure and helping out our wonderful mids. It hasn’t been all losses, the 3s had a glorious win 1-0 against Hampton-in-Arden, with some much appreciated help from the 2s.

Hockey ball saw the recognition of many of the 3s best moments, awarding Josefina with most improved; initially starting the year in defence and finishing as one of our key forwards scoring over 10 goals! As well as awarding Sophie as our player of the season, with her fantastic runs and dodging, Sophie is such a solid hockey player and I cannot wait to see what next year brings for the girls! A big congratulations is in order for Sian G who won Fresher of the year! Her commitment to the club, and to her team is incomparable and no-one deserved this award more than her. She is also our new social sec along with the 3s own Evie Smith; a big hand to these girls and I wish them all the best in their new roles.

All in all Term 2 has been a bit of a rollercoaster for the 3s, but I can say with certainty that this team is incredibly tight-knit, enjoys playing together and can only improve from here on out. Congratulations girls, we’ve made it! I wish Kate the best of luck in her captaincy for the coming year, you’ll smash it.

3s love x
