The 4s have come long way since the start of Term One this year. Term 2 has been a massive success for us, and we have performed brilliantly in both our friendly league Wednesday matches and in the WWHL Sunday League.
One of my proudest moments as Captain of the 4s this year was our match against Coventry NW, in which we decided to play in the questionable conditions during Strom Ciara back at the beginning of February, and won! We have really upped our game this year in terms of dedication to the team, including training and matches alike, and in terms of hockey. We have played several Wednesday matches this term, including two against the Mixed Hockey girls which was an invaluable opportunity for us to build some bridges, make some new friends as well as play some hockey with some other girls at Warwick. This led to several of the Mixed Hockey girls really enjoying the pace of our matches and filling in for us whenever we need, big shout out to Emma, Eve, Abi and Becky, you’re all more than welcome back whenever! Our other Wednesday matches included friendly games against Coventry University 2s, who would usually play against our 3s, so this was a challenge for us. However, I’m extremely proud to say that we were able to old our own, even scoring against them bringing the final score to 2-1 back in November.
The 4s have never played as many matches as we have this season and it’s been great to see so many girls taking the game so seriously, not only making themselves available for all of our matches but also being prepared to step up for the 3s whenever they find themselves short of players. It’s also been a pleasure to watch as a couple of the girls have pushed up fully to the 3s, well done Lexie and Sian exemplifying the fluidity between the two teams which has come such a long way this year. Big shout out to Smita for goalkeeping for us so much this term, it was such an aid to have Smita in goal as she’s always so helpful with directing the defence where to go. Also, thanks to Lara and Chelsea for stepping in and giving goal a go! On that note our defence has been absolutely solid this year, Angel and Rea have formed am extremely strong centre back position, and Raheema with her amazing tackles has proved to be an invaluable member of the defence. Ella and Amber have both been extremely helpful to me in the midfield, and Chloe who only joined in January has been excellent in attack, alongside Katie our now designated goal hanger who has scored more than anyone else this year! AJ has also been an incredibaly encouraging member of the team as well as great Vice Captain to me, filling in for a match I could not make, as well as being very helpful back in October when I was injured by a hockey stick and unable to play for a couple of weeks. Alongside matches the 4s have become a very close team, with meals out and pizza nights!
Hockey Ball was an extremely successful evening for the 4s in which we received some well-deserved recognition in the form of the Team of the Year Award. Ella earnt the player of the season award for her dedication to matches. Angel deservedly was nominated Most Improved, as its very hard to believe now that she only properly started playing Hockey back in October! Big shout out to Louis our coach, always pushing us harder to play better and really focussing on individual player skills as well as our formation as a team as made a big difference! I can speak from personal experience as my hit as come on a long way since the start of this year!!
I couldn’t be prouder of the 4s this year, and it’s been an absolute pleasure to be your captain. I’ve been a part of this team for 3 years now and it’s been wonderful to watchthe 4s develop in the way they have. All the best for your captaincy Amber, I know you’ll absolutely smash it next season!
