2nd XI Term One Round Up

What an interesting rollercoaster of a term it has been.

I’m so proud of everyone for just making it through. The 2s have had a brilliant start to the season with lots of new and old faces joining the team. Despite only having played 3 games we have really come together and everyone on the team has made their mark.

We started the season with an intense but fun filled preseason playing lots of hockey to get us ready for our games. We also made sure to keep up all the running that we had been doing over lockdown 1 mixing it up with some distance and sprinting sessions.

With a new team to get used too everyone played really well in our first game against Sutton Coldfield 4s with an incredible short corner goal from fresher Ellen and lovely play from Sky who has joined us from the 3s. We then had to take an unfortunate break from hockey due to members of the club having to self isolate but we didn’t let this stop us and have embraced the world of virtual sessions. Working through all the inevitable tech problems to keep our fitness up when we couldn’t get out of the house.

On our first day out of lockdown we had a suspenseful game drawing 3-3 against Olton and West Warwicks 4s with great goals from Camilla and Abi.

Our last WWHL game of the term was against Solihull Blossomfield Ladies 2s in the pouring rain. Everyone played really well particularly goalie Alice and considering this team is top of the league came away with a good result of 3-0.

To finish off the season before lockdown 2 we played a mixed game with the 3s which was a lot of fun getting to play with different people. Goals were scored by Camilla, Molly and Chong.

Over lockdown 2 we completed Move for Movember raising lots of money for an incredible cause as well as keeping ourselves fit. We have been doing an advent calendar of fitness challenges to keep ourselves in shape for our matches in the new year.

It’s been a lot of fun so far and has been a pleasure to play with such an amazing team. With some of the most challenging games under our belt and some more hard work I am confident we can work our way up the league table. I know that everyone will be super keen to make the most of what hockey we can play in the new year. Happy Christmas everyone!!!
